and old houses
On the village square, Anglars reveals its heritage:
- The church of Saint-Martin, stemming from an ancient Benedictine priory attested as early as the 10th century, the church is one of the village’s treasures. It retains a remarkable Romanesque bell tower, while its Gothic silhouette is the result of reconstruction in the 17th century. Inside, chapels, scultures and coats of arms evoke local history and the seigneurial families.
- A medieval house from the XIIIᵉ-XIVᵉ centuries made of sandstone, still shows traces of arches and small bays decorated with sculpted faces, now badly eroded. To the rear, an old alleyway discreetly links the square to the Route du Stade.
- An elegant 17thᵉ century residence stands out for its carved cross bays, including a remarkable corner crossing. Classical decorations, original studded joinery and two Renaissance-style sculpted heads, visible to the rear, bear witness to the architectural quality of the complex, which opens onto a vast garden planted with trees.
