Ajouter aux favoris

At the gateway to the Ségala region, close to Lacapelle-Marival and its imposing castle, Anglars boasts a typical Limargue rural heritage. TheOuysse flows alongside the village, providing a natural backdrop of meadows, woods and low stone walls. At the heart of the village, thechurch of Saint-Martin, some of which is listed as a Historic Monument, impresses with its uncluttered nave and Romanesque bell tower dating from the XIIᵉ century. Between nature, architecture and an authentic atmosphere, Anglars reveals the essence of a Quercy village.

Church, alleyways

and old houses

On the village square, Anglars reveals its heritage:

  • The church of Saint-Martin, stemming from an ancient Benedictine priory attested as early as the 10th century, the church is one of the village’s treasures. It retains a remarkable Romanesque bell tower, while its Gothic silhouette is the result of reconstruction in the 17th century. Inside, chapels, scultures and coats of arms evoke local history and the seigneurial families.
  • A medieval house from the XIIIᵉ-XIVᵉ centuries made of sandstone, still shows traces of arches and small bays decorated with sculpted faces, now badly eroded. To the rear, an old alleyway discreetly links the square to the Route du Stade.
  • An elegant 17thᵉ century residence stands out for its carved cross bays, including a remarkable corner crossing. Classical decorations, original studded joinery and two Renaissance-style sculpted heads, visible to the rear, bear witness to the architectural quality of the complex, which opens onto a vast garden planted with trees.
The Ouysse, a waterway

amazing

The village of Anglars has the unusual feature of being crossed by theOuysse, an astonishing river which rises in the Ségala, sinks underground near Thémines, then reappears a few kilometres further on, at the gateway to Rocamadour. A singular and mysterious watercourse that brings freshness and gentleness to the village.

At the heart

Here, meadows, hedgerows and oak forests create a harmonious landscape that’s easy to explore and pleasant all year round. Between the plateaux of the Causses and the hills of the Ségala, this land of transition reveals a mosaic of meadows, orchards and small valleys, all of which add to the charm of the countryside.
