Discovery of the castle of Larnagol

Right in the heart of the Causses du Quercy, between Saint-Cirq Lapopie and Cajarc, be curious and stop by the charming village of Larnagol. Hidden behind a large gate, the imposing chateau, and its incredible view of the Lot Valley, will surely surprise you. For heritage enthusiasts or lovers of gardens in bloom, this building promises you a poetic journey from the Middle Ages to the present day…

A rich heritage

A military stronghold in the 12th century, the chateau of Larnagol was first owned by the Cardaillac and then the Vicomtes de Calvignac. In the 17th century, the building was purchased by the Barons of Laporte, then transformed in the early 18th century into a residence richly adorned with gypseries, painted tiles and boiseries. Magnificent gardens, overhung with ponds, harmoniously surround the castle. Since their arrival, in 2011, the Conte Pierron family, passionate about heritage, has undertaken numerous restorations to bring this authentic place back to life!

For the pleasure of the senses

You enter the courtyard, the garden and its incredible colors welcome you. You continue into the castle, at each window, always this garden that seems to follow you upstairs. The owners are very attached to it, “everything is built around this nature“. The roses largely dominate, but you’ll find a stunning array of flowers in both the Italian-style and French-style gardens. An ornamental garden, an orchard and spring-fed ponds also make up this verdant tableau. Time seems to have stopped, and one willingly settles into an armchair to admire the view, so resourcing, on the Lot valley.

Did you know that?

An exceptional grid is to be discovered in the castle garden. It was created by Raymond Subes, one of the most important ironmongers of 20th-century French art, who lived in the mansion for 50 years. He created the stair railings and balustrades for major ocean liners: the Ile De France in 1927; the Atlantic in 1931; the Normandie in 1935; the Liberté in 1950; and the France in 1962.

A little treasure to be discovered in the heart of the castle!

How about a night at the castle?

The chateau can be visited but it is also possible to sleep there! Your hosts will welcome you warmly, they have at heart to “share their passion for heritage and the French art of living“. The large suite is composed of a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom, with a classical careful decoration: period furniture, sculptures, bouquets of fresh flowers, gypseries, painted canvases… You will have the chance to enjoy and explore the gardens and, if you are observant, perhaps you will meet the carp of the ponds… What a pleasure to be able to stay in such a picturesque place!
