For a family day out, choose places that are easy to get to, with shade, space to put your things down and, if possible, a supervised swimming area. Lake Tolerme is the most well-rounded spot for a day out: a beach, play areas, picnic spots, a snack bar and on-site activities.

In the Célé Valley, the beaches at Brengues, Saint-Sulpice, Marcilhac-sur-Célé and Sauliac-sur-Célé offer a more natural setting. People come here to splash about, build pebble dams, have a picnic and enjoy the scenery. Caution is essential: in rivers, the depth, the current and the condition of the banks can change.

In the Grand-Figeac area, a day at the water’s edge often involves a chequered picnic blanket, a nice cold melon, crusty bread and a nap in the shade. At Lake Tolerme, tables and barbecues make it easy to organise a day out. Swimming can also be enjoyed on the move. On the River Lot, near Cajarc, and in the Célé Valley, canoeing and kayaking offer a different way to explore the valleys, amongst cliffs, wooded banks and charming villages. Fishing enthusiasts will also find plenty of ideal spots along the rivers and lakes of the Grand-Figeac area.

At Lake Tolerme, it’s all about pedalos, stand-up paddleboarding, canoes, kayaks, rowing and fun water activities at the water park!

After all that exertion, all that’s left to do is choose a spot for your towel and cool off.

Before going for a swim in a river or lake, remember to check local information on water quality, especially after heavy rain. In the Lot, the Inf’eau Loisirs scheme monitors the quality of natural bathing waters during the summer season.

Once there, let’s follow the right practices: use designated access points, avoid trampling on fragile riverbanks, do not disturb wildlife, keep dogs under control where they are permitted, leave no litter behind, and check the posted guidelines.
