Swimming in the Grand-Figeac

Ajouter aux favoris

When summer brings the heat to Grand-Figeac, the call of the water is soon felt. After a hike, a village tour or a morning spent strolling around Figeac, there’s nothing quite like a spot for a swim to slow down, cool off and make the most of your holiday. Here, there’s something for everyone: dipping your feet in the River Célé, a towel laid out on the pebbles, an active day at Lake Tolerme, a few lengths in the pool or an afternoon of water games with the children. Here, swimming can be wild at times, family-friendly at others, but always with that little taste of summer that makes you want to make the day last a bit longer.

Swimming in the nude

in the Célé Valley

In the Célé Valley, there’s no need for frills: a clear river, limestone cliffs, charming villages and riverbanks where you can simply settle down, whether in the shade or in the sun.

In Brengues, Saint-Sulpice, Marcilhac-sur-Célé, or Sauliac-sur-Célé, the swimming spots invite you to take your time. People come here to splash about, have a picnic, read, watch the children play with the pebbles or take a break after a canoe trip.

We love: the natural atmosphere, the cliffs, the pebble beaches and the charming villages.
Ideal for: families, lovers of wild swimming, and breaks after a hike or a heritage day out.

Spend the day

at Lake Tolerme

Fancy a full day by the water? Head to Lake Tolerme, set amongst the green countryside of the Ségala. Here, you can alternate between swimming, playing, napping on a towel, picnicking, strolling around the lake and water sports.

With its sandy beach, supervised swimming in season, playground, picnic tables, barbecues, snack bar and dining areas, Tolerme ticks all the boxes for a hassle-free family day out. The more active among you can also enjoy pedalos, canoes, stand-up paddleboarding, the water park, rowing or even the zip line.

We love: the ‘everything-in-one-place’ feel, the beach, the activities and the shady spots.
Ideal for: a day out with the kids, a day out with friends, a refreshing break without having to think too hard about it.

Swimming pools

and water parks

Whether you’re looking for a paddling pool, a supervised swim or a simple day out with the children, the swimming pools in the Grand-Figeac area have you covered. Figeac, Capdenac-Gare, Cajarc, Lacapelle-Marival,Bagnac-sur-Célé, Saint-Sulpice and Causse-et-Diège offer a variety of options depending on where you’re staying.

A few laps, a dip, an afternoon of water games or a refreshing break after a day of sightseeing: swimming pools are the perfect way to beat the heat on very hot days.

What we love: the easy access, the facilities, and the convenience.
Ideal for: families, swimmers, and days when you fancy a simple, relaxing dip.

Where to swim

with the children?

For a family day out, opt for places that are easy to get to, with shade, space to put your things down and, if possible, a supervised swimming area. Lake Tolerme is the most well-rounded spot for a day out: a beach, play areas, picnic spots, a snack bar and on-site activities.

In the Célé Valley, the beaches at Brengues, Saint-Sulpice, Marcilhac-sur-Célé and Sauliac-sur-Célé offer a more natural setting. People come here to splash about, build pebble dams, have a picnic and enjoy the scenery. Caution is essential: in rivers, the depth, the current and the condition of the banks can change.

Picnic

by the water’s edge

In the Grand-Figeac area, a day at the water’s edge often means a chequered picnic blanket, a nice cold melon, crusty bread and a nap in the shade. At Lake Tolerme, tables and barbecues make it easy to organise a day out. In the Célé Valley, the atmosphere is more laid-back: you set down your picnic basket by the river, enjoy the peace and quiet, then take your rubbish home with you.

When packing your picnic basket, think of the markets, local producers and little gourmet breaks in the villages. A swim, a picnic, a stroll: sometimes, that’s all it takes to make for a perfect summer’s day.

Canoeing, fishing

and water sports

Swimming can also be enjoyed on the move. On the River Lot, near Cajarc, and in the Célé Valley, canoeing and kayaking offer a different way to explore the valleys, amongst cliffs, wooded banks and charming villages. Fishing enthusiasts will also find plenty of ideal spots along the rivers and lakes of the Grand-Figeac area.

At Lake Tolerme, it’s all about pedalos, stand-up paddleboarding, canoes, kayaks, rowing and fun water activities at the water park!

After all that exertion, all that’s left to do is choose a spot for your towel and cool off.

Water quality

and best practices

Before going for a swim in a river or lake, remember to check local information on water quality, especially after heavy rain. In the Lot, the Inf’eau Loisirs scheme monitors the quality of natural bathing waters during the summer season.

Once there, let’s follow the right practices: use designated access points, avoid trampling on fragile riverbanks, do not disturb wildlife, keep dogs under control where they are permitted, leave no litter behind, and check the posted guidelines.

The Célé Valley is beautiful because it is unspoilt. It is up to us to ensure it stays that way.
